ICANN第35次会议将于2009年6月21日（Sunday,21 June 2009），周日（澳大利亚时间）上午8时正，在澳大利亚悉尼市召开。澳大利亚（夏令时）悉尼（东澳）时间比北京时间早3个小时，因此北京时间6月21日凌晨5时，ICANN第35次会议即召开。

    这个系列把这些ICANN第35次会议官方网站（http://syd.icann.org）上一些信息作扼要介绍。
    笔者是2002年10月底参加过ICANN（上海）会议（http://www.w.org.cn/user1/4/subject/74.html）的报道、采访并写了一系列评论、见闻。ICANN每年在世界各地轮流举办3次大会，若干次主题会议。2009年有2次在亚太区召开： 第35次会议在悉尼、第36次会议在韩国首尔。

    ICANN全称：互联网名称与编码分配管理机构（Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers），负责全球互联网域名、IP地址资源及协议参数的协调、管理与分配，对当前互联网发展具有非常重要的影响。ICANN会议包括了政府咨询委员会（GAC）会议、各下属支持组织会议和ICANN理事会会议等。此外，其它一些互联网相关机构通常也在ICANN会议期间召开相关会议。与会代表多为各个国际和地区的互联网技术专家、企业代表、域名注册机构代表和其它技术协调组织的代表。会议议题通常围绕域名、IP地址、协议参数、根服务器等等这些关系到互联网稳定运行的基础架构要素的技术、管理和政策问题展开讨论。

    由于它涉及到许多重要的互联网基础参数的协调管理政策的讨论和制定，因此很多互联网公司、各个国家和地区的互联网信息中心、域名注册机构以及有关互联网的众多国际组织都会派代表积极参与ICANN会议。

    About

    To reach another person on the Internet you have to type an address into your computer - a name or a number. That address has to be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN coordinates these unique identifiers across the world. Without that coordination we wouldn't have one global Internet.

    ICANN was formed in 1998. It is a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with participants from all over the world dedicated to keeping the Internet secure, stable and interoperable. It promotes competition and develops policy on the Internet’s unique identifiers.
 
    ICANN doesn’t control content on the Internet. It cannot stop spam and it doesn’t deal with access to the Internet. But through its coordination role of the Internet’s naming system, it does have an important impact on the expansion and evolution of the Internet. (http://www.icann.org/en/about/)
